Today at Generations we bid a bittersweet farewell to our pastor, John O'Keefe. In our conversation today, John discusses what his legacy might be in the context of this community of faith, and more importantly what the legacy of this church should be. Thank you John, for your service.

The only Gospel written by a gentile. Originally written in common Greek, considered to be the most poetic of the four Gospels. Gives the lineage of Christ back to Adam as opposed to Matthew which gives the lineage back to Abraham. Also makes most direct reference to Mary Magdelene.

Continuing the series on the communal narrative of the Gospels, we discuss Matthew which was the second of the four to be written and is one of the three Synoptic Gospels.

In todays coversation at Generations, we began our look at the cannonical Gospels with The Gospel According To Mark. It was written by John Mark who was not a disciple of Christ but was later a disciple of Peter and accompanied Paul on his first mission as described in Acts. It was the first of the Gospels written and the other Gospels quote all but 31 verses of Mark. In todays coversation starting with the topic of the Gospel According To Mark we discuss the spirit of service.

The conversation at Generations Christian Community Of Faith today starts with a reating from Acts 13:1-3.

"1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene,Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off."

We discuss the paradigm shift in our society and in the Church that went from the Church being a mission of service to the community to becomming a place where people would come to be served and goes from there.

In last Sunday's conversation at Generations continuing the series on the early Church, we look at an early account of an offering taken up for the aid of others elsewhere. Additionally, we consider what it means to be present to serve your community. We begin to consider the Greek term "koinonia" and what its many meanings may indicate about how we should serve one another.

koinonia - feminine noun

  1. fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation, intercourse
    1. the share which one has in anything, participation
    2. intercourse, fellowship, intimacy
      1. the right hand as a sign and pledge of fellowship (in fulfilling the apostolic office)
    3. a gift jointly contributed, a collection, a contribution, as exhibiting an embodiment and proof of fellowship

Todays conversation is a continuation of a series called System Reboot: The Church In Acts. In this installment we take a look at the first glimpse of difference in the early church when there were issues between the Greek and Hebrew speaking members in the early Church, and how it is relevant today in the Church and in the World. The Scripture comes from Acts 6:1-7

In today's conversation we discuss the seemingly silly things that have caused churches to split apart over time. From politics to the color of the carpet, and how that has nothing to do with why we gather, or why we should. Its a worthwhile conversation.

Its not simply enough to tolerate people into your church. Its not enough to merely accept them. We need to want all people to participate. We need to make them feel wanted just as they are. To welcome them in.

The scripture today was from 1 Corinthians 14 verses 10 - 12

10 Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11 If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. 12 So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.
